Robinsons BU offer matches the attire

Alton Robinson walked around the halls of Converse Judson High School in recent months wearing Baylor gear.
He didn't have a Baylor offer but that didn't stop the questions from coming.

"People kept asking me if I was going to Baylor and things like that,'' the 2016 standout said. "But I really didn't say anything. Baylor has always been high on my board.''
Now, he has an offer to match the fashion choices. On Monday, Baylor offered Robinson (6-3, 220) and sees him as a defensive end. He does fit the prototype of what the Bears' coaching staff sees in its ends, long, lean, athletic with a relentless knack of getting to the football. He is listed as a linebacker and that's how some programs view him. Robinson's offer list is deepening and includes Michigan, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M.
Usually, when Robinson was on the field and involved in the play, it was going backwards for the Judson defense. Of his 98 tackles, 20 were sacks, another 20 were tackles for loss and he forced 11 quarterback hurries.
"I started off at linebacker [Judson bases out of a 3-4], but I injured my hand and so it changed things,'' Robinsons aid. "The coaches later moved me to defensive end because they liked my hands and hips. I've got loose hips. If you have that, you can help your team.''
His face-to-face contact with Baylor had been sporadic but obviously effective enough. He attended the TCU game last fall and kept in contact with his recruiter, defensive line coach Chris Achuff. During the spring 2014 spring evaluation period, Robinson also met Baylor defensive coordinator Phil Bennett.
What might have tipped Baylor over to this offer was when a third-party emailed Robinson's junior film to anyone and everyone, Robinson said. Apparently, Baylor was on that list.
"Coach Achuff just said he liked the way I played football,'' Robinson said. "He said the coaching staff talked it over and thought this was the time to offer. It's a great feeling.''
Robinson has pretty solid speed with a personal-best of 23.01 seconds in the 200, which he recorded at Judson's track meet this past weekend. He also carries a quality vertical of 33 inches. He probably won't see anyone from Baylor again in person until the evaluation period begins next month.
"I've always known Baylor as a great academic school,'' he said. "But now that it's become a football school, I'm really interested. They have a great graduation rate for their players.''
