Corey Coleman: The Latest

Baylor's relationship with its 2012 prized recruitCorey Coleman continues to remain consistent and healthy.

The No. 229 recruit in the Rivals National 250 had his weekly visit with Baylor assistant Kendall Briles on Wednesday and described the conversation as very positive.

"I like Baylor a lot,'' Coleman said. "I feel like they're honest with me and don't pressure me. They just support me, and that's great.''

Coleman, who attended just about every Baylor home game this past fall, is scheduled to take his official visit to Waco on Jan. 20. The only schools that appear to still have his attention are California and Texas. Coleman is still trying to schedule a visit to Cal in January after postponing this weekend's visit.

As for Texas, he said he spoke with Texas assistant Darrell Wyatt who told him the Longhorns may be close to offering him. Texas likely would be looking for more secondary help even though it picked up two defensive back commitments in Mineral Wells safety Adrian Colbert and Brownwood defensive back Kevin Vaccaro.

"They said they were going to go really fast when they were going to do this,'' Coleman said. "I'm not sure how I'd react [if Texas offered].''

But it would be a case where Texas is going to have to do a great selling job in order for Coleman to change his mind. Coleman has been tied with the Baylor program since early in the recruiting process, made several visits to the campus on his own in the spring before committing in May.

One program that appears to be no longer in it is Oklahoma. Coleman said he hasn't spoken with any coaches in several weeks.

Although the football season wasn't a success - Pearce finished 4-6 - Coleman said he learned a lot about leadership and how he hopes it will help him as he transitions to Division I college football.

"I learned what it's going to take to play at the next level when it comes to leadership,'' he said. "There's some maturity about it, and I got to show some of the younger players how to play at this level.''

Should everything go according to plan on Feb. 1, 2012, Coleman said he will take advantage of whatever remaining time he has with second-team all-american Kendall Wright. The senior finished a record-setting career. The two have remained close since Baylor started recruiting Coleman.

"I really like him and look up to him,'' Coleman said. "I wish he could stay. I would give a little more time just to work with him.''

Coleman is academically ready to go between his test score and his core grades.

Baylor coaches will not be hosting any recruits this weekend. The plan is to have all of their visits in January. Traditionally, Baylor uses its January visits strategically and will use one weekend for all of it commits to arrive and get to know each other…Wednesday is signing day for junior college recruits. Barring a last-second addition, the coaching staff should be expecting letters of intent from Navarro defensive tackle Joey Searcy and Riverside City College linebacker Eddie Lackey.
