Amid the hoopla - perhaps the hysteria - when Tyrone Brown visited Texas A&M recently, there seemed to be a growing consensus that the Aggies were going to add to their 2019.

Bells and whistles are fine. Substance of the relationship proved to be stronger. That's what Brown has with Baylor. That's why he's the fourth member of the 2019 class.

On Tuesday, the Humble Atascocita slash defender broke a Baylor commitment drought of more than two months when he committed to the Bears. Matt Rhule's program has a prospect that can give some flexibility at either linebacker or safety. It appears that Brown's first focus will be at safety.

He plans to attend Saturday's Green and Gold game.

"I relate to the coaches on a different level than I do with other coaches and they relate to me the same way,'' Brown said. "It already felt like home when I visited and I thought to myself why not commit there.''

The former Beaumont Central standout and his mother moved to Humble several months ago for what he described as a means to make a fresh start and have better opportunities further north.

That's when his recruiting took another turn. Baylor was the second program to offer him on March 20. He visited the school on April 8 and took in practice. That's when the relationship clicked.

"Aggie land was a great school Baylor just felt more like home,'' Brown said. "It’s a blessing in many ways and one of the most important one is knowing my mom want have to pay for me to go to college.''

At 6-4, 205, Brown played on both sides of the ball. He became a playmaker with 72 tackles, two forced fumbles and one interception (two offensive touchdowns). The expectations for his senior season are likely higher. Brown should see time at both safety and outside linebacker.

"I can read the offense pretty good , direct the ball fast,'' Brown said. "I feel I’m a good open field tackler and can get off of blocks and make a plays.''
