Bravvion Roy commits to Baylor

Loyalty can be a fickle component to recruiting. But when it comes to Bravvion Roy, nothing meant more.
Baylor became the first to offer the newest member of the Baylor 2016 class. He was a freshman then. At no point did Baylor's interest ever waiver. At no point did Roy ever question it.

The Spring defensive tackle (6-2, 315) announced Sunday he had committed to the Bears. He is the 11th member of the class. Baylor is now ranked No. 23 in the Rivals team rankings.
This is a major pick up for the Bears. This program has been looking for that signature defensive line commit that would set up the rest of the way this coaching staff would approach the rest of its defensive line recruiting. Roy presents that signature.
And his stock (3 stars, 5.7 rating) has been climbing since. He's the No. 54 player in Texas and No. 36 player rated at his position. He clears a 4.9 in the 40.
"Not a week had gone by where I wasn't talking to Baylor,'' Roy said. "Basically everything led me to picking Baylor. The campus. The coaching staff. The academics. They've been on me since my freshman year.''
Baylor always held the lead but had to hold off late interest from LSU and Texas Tech. The Red Raiders offered him at their camp in Spring last week. Roy also considered Missouri, Oklahoma State and Louisville. Roy visited LSU last week but didn't come away with a great vibe considering that the Tigers already had two defensive line commitments.
In Roy, Baylor gets the replacement nose tackle for Andrew Billings whenever he departs. Should Billings stay for his senior year in 2016, then Roy would serve as both Billings' backup or play alongside as a defensive tackle.
If Billings has a big 2015 and declares for the 2016 draft, then Roy arrives at Waco next summer (he will be a summer enrollee) as one of the candidates for the nose guard position. Baylor's interest factored heavily on Roy's ability to run.
"They've rebuilt their whole defense over the years,'' he said. "As I get a few guys to help us, we're going to do more things to keep offenses down. I hope we can cut about 18-20 points off what teams score.''
Roy also possesses a high motor. In this era of spread offenses, he makes it a play-by-play goal to run to the play regardless of where it is on the field.
"Everybody wants to play the spread offense and be quick,'' he said. "You got to want it and you want to be out there. Wherever the ball is, you have to hustle and get to it. If I play next year, I'm going to work my butt off. I'm doing a lot of conditioning right now because I expect to play 50-60 snaps each game next year.''
Roy said he plans on visiting Baylor in the next two weeks and said he is shutting down his recruiting.
