Baylor’s questions for its 2020 defensive front received the boost it needed Friday.
Arkansas State defensive end grad transfer William Bradley-King signed with Dave Aranda's staff.
Bradley-King, who is originally from Kansas City, put together a first-team All-Sun Belt 2019 season with 49 tackles, 8.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. Of those tackles, 13.5 went for losses that totaled 61 yards. Both the sack and tackles for loss totals were team highs. The Red Wolves finished 8-5 and defeated Florida International in the Camellia Bowl this past December, 34-26. Arkansas State is coached by former Baylor player Blake Anderson.
Bradley-King started to come of age in his sophomore season 2018 when he recorded six sacks and 33 tackles. He was named then a second-team All-Sun Belt performer.
One of the advantages he brings is that he pretty much went through a spring football season when Baylor had yet to begin its spring. Arkansas State reportedly had completed 11 workouts when the COVID-19 breakout caused all college sports to stop immediately.
He has already used his redshirt season. Baylor is likely not interested in that anyway as it suffered heavy losses from the 2019 team. Consensus All-American James Lynch declared for the NFL draft in January, while James Lockhart was a senior.
Defensive line is major question mark coming back for this team. While T.J. Franklin, Josh Landry, Gabe Hall and Chidi Ogbonnaya all say playing time in 2019, they combined for zero starts. Their tackle numbers were negligible as they were rotated into games. Ogbonnaya is the most experienced appearing in all 13 games. Franklin appeared in 10, while Hall played in seven and Landry six.
Bradley-King is the third addition to the 2020 roster in the last three weeks. He joins Kilgore JUCO defensive end/outside linebacker Victor Obi and Indiana (PA) Division II long snapper Gunnar Royer. Obi and Royer signed their scholarship agreements this week.
