Class of 2013 five-star tracker
The class of 2013 was often labeled as the Year of the Cornerback because four players at the position were evaluated as five-star prospects, and through the first four weeks of the college football season it appears as though the analysts were spot on with the group.
The quartet was the most active of the former five-star prospects this week and earned time in the spotlight again.
Vernon Hargreaves III was the No. 2 player in the country as a recruit out of Tampa (Fla.) Wharton, and he started for Florida in the win over Tennessee. Hargreaves was responsible for two solo tackles and three passes defended in the contest.
Kendall Fuller was at one point the highest-ranked cornerback out of Olney (Md.) Good Council, but he concluded his recruitment at No. 9 overall. He has started since the opening kickoff for Virginia Tech, and this week he had his best performance of the season by tallying five solo tackles -- thus becoming the first true freshman of the group to break double digits -- and added his first interception.
"I give our players a lot of credit; they just kept working," he said. "We became a better football team.
"When kids hang in there together and find a way to get it done, that builds chemistry and trust; that makes you a better football team. That's important with as many young guys as we have."
Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy product Jalen Ramsey was just below Fuller at No. 10 in the nation for the class. He has been in the starting lineup every week and recording his first sack.
Tre'Davious White broke the top 20, finishing his recruitment at No. 18 out of Shreveport (La.) Green Oaks. White started for the second time this season for LSU and filled the stat sheet. In a technicality because of game times, his four tackles pushed him to 10 after Fuller had broken the barrier. He added three assists.
