Jefferson talks Baylor visit
Baylor again put its best foot forward Sunday afternoon when Rivals No. 19 prospect Malik Jefferson stopped by with his family.
Following a Saturday afternoon visit at Texas, the Mesquite Poteet 2015 product wanted other family members to see the Baylor campus. They also took a tour of McLane Stadium. This was Jefferson's fourth known visit to Waco. He visited Baylor back in April and twice back in the summer of 2013.
"It was fun, but I wanted my other family members - really my brothers - to see everything,'' Jefferson said. "Everyone enjoyed it.''
But Jefferson stayed the course with his approach to recruiting by only saying he is still seriously considering Baylor among his 29 offers. Jefferson, who had the second-highest SPARQ test score at The Opening earlier this month, said he likes the Baylor defensive approach. That's why there is the appeal.
"I'm not sure where they would put me,'' Jefferson said. "They told me that they could use me inside or outside. That's a compliment.''
At this point, Jefferson said he has no plans to announce a Top 5 or a Top 10. However, his summer tour is not finished. He said he hopes to plan a visit to Texas A&M soon. Mesquite Poteet begins fall camp on Aug. 11.
In recent years, Baylor would have offered recruits like Jefferson. Yet that's as far as the recruitment process would have gone. Jefferson's visit is a reminder that this coaching staff can compete for some of the nation's top prospects.
Jefferson still plans on taking his five official visits. Baylor hopes to be one of those. A commitment decision doesn't seem to be coming anytime soon. The earliest that it may happen is in December.
