There is nothing easy about recruiting. There's a lot of talk, pressure and competition for the same players.
And the stakes are raised when someone else wants what you have.
Baylor's evaluation, procurement and development of talent has been revealed in recent years. Two players were selected in the first round of the 2011 NFL draft. Robert Griffin III won the Heisman Trophy last December. Next week, Griffin and wide receiver Kendall Wright are both going to be in the first round of the draft.
West Orange-Stark LB Travon Blanchard and Wylie East wide receiver Vequan Jones are being seriously targeted by TCU.
A lot can happen between now and Feb. 6, 2013. Of course, these are two of the big names of the Baylor class.
"A TCU coach got me out of class and basically told me I have an offer if I go to TCU's campus,'' Blanchard said. "Oregon basically said the same thing. But I'm 112% Baylor. Besides, my mom just spent over $300 on Baylor hats and shirts. If I switched, she'd kill me.''
Jones, a four-star recruit, brings a lot of intangibles. He's holding 17 offers including Baylor.
"The coach said I'm one of their top guys they are going after,'' Jones said of TCU. "It seems pretty nice, but right now I'm committed to Baylor. But we will just have to wait to see though.''
As always, verbal commitments are non-binding.
